after weeks of jumping up, attacking the light unit, he has finally smashed it to pieces, and completely broken it. That's £100 down the drain. Bloody stupid ^&)(*(^&% &*("£$ fish!!! :irked: The tank's pitch black now. Any suggestions for dovii proof lighting?

You may be able to custom cut some lucite and attach it to the under side of your light somehow. Just figure out a latching system to keep it on so you can still get inside to the tombstones, bulbs and ballasts. Run to the hardware store and give it a go, couldn't cost you that much.

Lol...sorry not sure if there is such a thing as dovii proof lighting. Can you maybe hang a fixture over the tank and keep it a good distance from the surface?

It's funny you posted this, because my t. ellioti was hitting my light fixture trying to kill swordtails when I clicked on this thread...

I also had a 13'' oscar that would knock off glass lids in the past.

my old dovii smashed the tops off all the time so it came down to eggcrating with weights on it it and hanging lights over the tank.lol good luck! once a smasher always a smasher.

cheers for the sug's, i think overhead lighting is the way forward.

Yes definately a smasher for life, although when the lids off he dont jump up.

The crashing noise of the lid flaps really was anoying, specially when try to get some work done.

Literally a complete pyscho, with some serious anger management issues.

Thanks for the luck il need it

Lol I've had the same issues, I found that mine was more infatuated with the water dripping off the lids and attacking that than just being a jumper, I've alps considered the egg crate lids but they can creat a nice gash/cut... My best option was to build a canopy lid they extended 8-10" above the top of tank and water so he couldn't jump out and went with a ballast with/without a lid

the only way to dovii proof a tank is to not own one but dont listen to me because if i could get another i would

i have heavy glass lids my jag always bangin them because the water dripping but my lid is strong

I think it was the dripping he was attacking; also the fact that when I used to remove the lid completely he didnt do it. The female used to do it as well but before I got the male. Now she just attacks him in a telling off way when he jumps because of the fry.

Building a lid a lot higher than the water is a good idea. But I dont think glass lids are at all....powerful fish + glass not siliconed in place = smashed glass, possible broken tank and definate fillet o' fish
