My Dovii laid eggs yesterday

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think out of all the eggs I ended up with around 15 Fry would be my guess. Better some than none. When I first bought these fish I went to pick up some Festae and found these as a bonus. I started them out on mainly frozen blood worrms, brine shrimp, glass shrimp, and Cichlid sticks. I have been feeding them earth worms once a week as well along with tons of other frozen food varities I pick up here and there. I was doing water changes like every 2-3 days when I first bought them for quick growth but have slowed down to once a week. My little male at the 2" mark was more impressive looking that most males I have seen. Hes a looker! This is a photo of him at the 2" mark. Im guessing he colored up quicker because of being a wild caught F0 or just from a realy good strain. By the way I had a couple of posters tell me that he was a female after looking at this same pic.

Heres a pic of my female with some fry. I counted around 15 when they hatched but can only see around 10 or so now. Some might have worked their way out of the pot and are burried in the gravel. As soon as they start swimming on their own they are going in their own tank.

Congrats on the eggs hope they produce.

Back to the drawing board. The male ate all the fry accept for one which I put in one of those plastic breeder tanks that float on the top of the tank. If it makes it maturity its name will be little Hercules. I gave away my other pair of Dovii yesterday with my Clown Knife and 8" Common Pleco. the guy came with cash but I knew him so I just gave them away knowing that their going to a good home. Now my breeders have more room for round two.

Its been less than 24 hours since I took out the divider and gave away the other Dovii pair and they are already cleaning off a spot on the bottom for round two! I alos struck a deal with a breeder who wants all my fry when it happens again after seeing the pics of my fish.
