Doing water changes
Ok Im about to set up a drip on my 240 so i want to run the plans by you guys incase im forgetting something or overlooking something cause i dont want to have a flood in my front room. And doing a weekly water change on a 240 I may not be able to keep up with cause of work so gotta make sure there ok cause Im not getting out of this hobby.

So In my garage my buddy whos a plumber is going to put in another faucet to run this off of he can also check the pressure. from the faucet Its going to go into a filter to remove the chlorine from there it'll go into a reducer to 3/8 then it will go into the basement and through a hole ill drill in the floor then upto the outlet for the return from my sump and mix in with the filtered water coming out.

For my return Im going to have a pump connected to a float valve so once it reaches a certain level in the sump the float valve will turn the pump on and the water will go back through 1/2 inch back throught the hole i drilled through the basement and then drain back into my sink in the garage. Now one thing is its roughly 10 ft from the sump to the sink in the garage plus itll be a little longer since itll be going through the basement so Im estimating 14ft. Can someone recommend a pump that will work for this? im looking around but im not finding many

Sounds scary (ALL drip systems, that is) but sounds like you've got some good ideas there.

Thanks the main thing Im concerned about is the return pump because of the distance and I really dont want to have to buy a real sump pump casue there expensive

I use sumps to empty my ponds. You can get one that isn't too expensive at Home Depot - Get one of the $65 ones. They work wonders, and they have a float type stop. BUT they are wicked ass powerful. I don't know of any pumps that are less aggressive though.

(I am talking about the plug-in ones.)

Yeah I saw those but they have to be put in the sump and take up too much room and for some my sump is too small since Im also planning on adding plants and a light to the sump(project #2) but $65 aint bad. Im thinking of going with an external pump since i can just put the float valve in the sump and the pump right next to it on the outside to save room

I don't know if this is done by anyone, but...

What about drilling a hole or two, at the desired level, in the aquarium, and just let the water flow out through hosing by itself? Make a big hole so as to prevent potential clogs.?????

There wouldnt be enough gravity for the water to flow i was thinking of doing this with an overflow box and the sump is glass so i cant drill it. And for peace of mind id like a new pump returnning the water

this is the setup I use:

A float switch and a small quiet one pump. The problem with drilling is that you might lose too much water if the power fails
