The color on the anal/caudal fin of a healthy Acarichthys heckelii can't be beaten.. In another year or so you got a tempermental little beasty on your hands
Nice tank Dan, Ive used grape wood in the past as well. Love the look but they accumulate alot of debri. Nice steini too. Mine got too aggressive, he got evicted =)
I've seen some nice full grown Gymnogeophagus australis, been thinking about them. Nice Geophagus abalios, nice collection. the australis will color really nice when mature.
Thanks, of all my cichlids he seems exceptionally nice.

The pictures I've seen of adults made me really want the A. heckelii, I hope these guys don't turn out too aggressive. So far they are pretty mellow, but I will move them if they get out of hand.
My sand is pretty nice. However, your backgrounds have half of MFK feeling tank envy.

Thanks. I don't think I have to worry about debris on my driftwood - my Flagtail scours every accessible inch on a regular basis. I hope mine doesn't get too rough, but I have a 75 for him and his lady if he gets too aggressive.
I think your Biotodoma is the undescribed species from Guyana ... it looks like the lateral line is bisecting the spot instead of being completely under the spot like in B. cupido. Which is a good thing, I think cupido at the least colorful of the 3 species. But all the Biotodoma are cool fish, very under rated IMO.

I looked it up in my Eartheater book and you are absolutely correct. It sounds like B. sp. "Guyana" is the most attractive of the genus, with long white trailers on the caudal and shorter filaments on the dorsal. I can't wait until it grows out a bit!
