Hey everyone

Here is my new addition to the family, a 5 week old male Eclectus Parrot.

I am feeding him formula through a tube and syringe at the moment.

Thanks for looking.

Hand fed is the way to go. Love the green males. I had a red sided female myself.

Thanks Ken. I was going to get a female, but was told they get very hormonal as they age. How was your girl? Did you handfeed, if so, what age did you start weaning? I noticed he makes a bit of noice when he is sleeping, I was a bit worried the first night, but I think he was dreaming.

Hes gonna be a looker !

I got mine as an adult but was handfed. You're right about the older females. My girl is about 15 yrs old and would bite you when she's not in the mood to play. She also has problems with her feet. While perching on her stick at night she would fall off and hit the bottom of the cage. Sleeping disorder??? I gave her a box so she wouldn't fall but they say not to because it causes them start nesting and biting.
I think the eclectus has the prettiest feathers.

I hope he will be a looker!

I feed him 3 times a day, my missus works 5 mins from home, so she feeds him at lunch. I offered him a little piece of strawberry last night, which he took well. I read you can start weaning them around 5-6 week mark. I will give him formula 3 times a day until he is 8-10 weeks, then twice a day with fruit and veg compliments.

Their feathers are almost like dog hair, and I have been told they feel like it too when older.

I will keep this thread up to date with growth pics.

there used to be a male eclectus at the shop i work at, he was a very friendly
and socialble bird but if he was having a bad day he would let you know, i still
have a scar on my index finger from him. one day a customer was holding him
and he actually punched a hole in the sleeve of their leather jacket! he wasn't
mad or anything, just playing, luckily the customer didn't mind
your's is adorable, any ideas on a name yet?

His name is Pepe (pronounced 'peppy')

He's so funny, I think he is trying to talk to me already, I say 'Good boy Pepe' and he squawks back. He's already following me around in his box whan I walk around the room. I think he will be really close to me because I got him at such a young age.
