My Eclectus Parrot

Thanks everyone for the replies.

His cage is always open when we are home, so he is free to come out and rome at his will. He is almost always out and about with us when we are home.

I would like to be able to give him even more freedom in the future. A friend of mine has a small property, he has a galah and a couple of cockatoos, they are free to go outside, fly, play, and the come back at their will. At night they stay inside with him in their cages. I could not believe this when he first told me. He even has various other birds that hang out in his yard, red-tail black cockatoos are a regular visitor. My friend told me a story about how the birds sit in this particular species of tree, they listen to the branch for this kind of worm, then pinpoint where it is, then rip the bark away and dig into the branch until they get to the worm. Birds are so much more intelligent than I ever imagined.

I hope to one day let Pepe fly around like his birds, I dont think I will ever clip his wings. My friend believes that since I have handraised him, I should be able to let him rome when he's older. I have seen these harness things with a lead for birds. I might use it to train him. I dont want him to take off and not come back.

Dont forget there is much involved into letting a bird free roam in a house. For instances electric cords are a constant hazzard. Its pretty much the same as a litle kid :)

anf if it gets lost, while free roaming, having been hand raised it will have difficulties fending for itself.

Once committed to human hands, it is the human's responsibility to ensure its survival.

Best of luck with it!

Thanks Kanta, do you feed a natural diet, or do you feed him a seed mix?
I feed him a seed mix diet with other natural fruits and nuts. He LOVES his strawberries and almonds. He goes nuts when he sees me with them. I just recently tought him to ride around on my rc car lol .

Haha, I never thought of that, I might get a RC bike for him, he can do stunt tricks on the handle bars!

I saw an Eclectus parrot on Youtube on wooden roller skates, they make them as feet toys. It would be nice to find a skateboard one, I might just make one if I can't find any, a tec-deck would be too small.

I read that nuts aren't good for Eclectus, they are too fatty and cause liver failure.

Yeah I try not to give to many nuts. Its just a once in a great while treat.
