I just got 2 juvies myself and love to have the success of keeping them for 7 years.
Any chance you can post some tips as to keep them healthy and happy? ie. the amount of water current, your temp, water change regime, what you feed, how often to feed, etc?

First of all thank you. This is the second Tig that I have raise over the years. In my opinion, Tigs likes fast running current. My Tig usually sit underneath the return pipe and wait for any meals that are coming down. My water current is actually pretty strong. Since he is in a 3000 gallon tank, I have to run 2 large pumps with a 4000 ultima and a 2000 ultima in order to keep the turnover rate adequate. As for the Temp, I keep it at around 80 degrees. They will be fine with a little higher or lower. I have a constant water change system that will change about 100 gallons a day or more. I only feed this guy once a day, mainly market prawns, sinking pellets or smelt. He will consume anything that he can fit into his mouth. Lucky my large loaches and synodontis does not get swallow. Although this guys swims alot it is important to have a quiet place for them to just hide and relax. Good luck on your little ones, they will be a blast to raise.

If you see the overall girth and width of this thing the stomach is not a big deal. I have seen private pieces even larger and more massive then this one.

Haha, ok here is one more for you. This is the largest synodontis I have ever seen live. I had this guy for over 7 years also. He is massive.

About the obese comment, I think it's ok to feed much, as long as you skip feeding one or two days a week, to let the fish proces all the food and don't build up excessive fatty organs. We as fish keepers must not forget that fish eat as much as you give them (because in nature when food is plentyfull they eat as much as they can because they don't know when the next opertunity for food is gonna be).
Other than that it looks and sounds like an awesome catfish. I find it very annoying to see tigs swimming up the side of the tank all the time like you frequently see, but this one sounds to be behaving like he should (aka he's not stressed, could also be the reason of the increased appitite). It must be extremly impressive in person!
About the syno, is it a decorus? I cannot really tell, but it kinda looks like one. I have two growing out and there awesome.

This cat rarely swims up the side of the tank. It used to do that more as it was younger. Now he just sits or swims all over the base of the tank hunting for food. As for the Syn you are right it is a decorus.
