What size tank is it in? I ask because at three years the fire eel should be much larger than 16-17". There are several people that have seen growth rates from 4-8" to 30+" in less than two years. I've had my two larger ones for a little over a year and they have gone from 4" to 13". They are also growing much faster now that they are in my 220 and I expect that they will easily make it to 24" within the next year.

Here's some updated pictures. I got some good ones of both of the eels together. As you can see, they are close to the same length but the larger one is much thicker. This isn't even after a feeding either. Sorry about the blur in some of the pictures. Trying to get one eel to stay still is hard enough, let alone two. Lol

I think these guys are growing at least an inch a month right now, maybe even faster. I'm thinking about putting the smaller one in with them this weekend. He is around 9" but I'm afraid if I don't get him into the bigger tank soon, the others will just take off in size without him. We will see.

Mine is in a 125, but I don't think he/she is stunted. It hides in the tank length pvc pipes I have installed in the background and seems very happy all the time. Eventually I will upgrade the tank, I would like to do a few fire eels in a community setting but it is a ways off. I would like to put together a plywood tank. We shall see.

Beautiful. Saw one recently in my LFS very tempted. What's the biggest here? Their max size?
