My favorite fish-TANK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use the red bag of food.... I can't remember the name of it. Cichlid gold?

Anyway, I was at Pruess's yesterday (love that place) and Shelby recommended Dainichi.

Supposed to help with everything. Color, growth, etc...

Do you guys think my fish is a female? I've had him/her for almost 2 years now and the KOK is almost non-existant... But has never once laid eggs.

I would swear its a male by personality but man Im actually lost on this one...

I left me camara at work too so I can't post any new pix.... The fish has changed a bit since that photo up top.

HEY CAMP why do u always have to cut everybody down he said it was his fav fish and the first thing you say is thats very low grade and tell him where to find some (decent) fish from, am i the only one that gets sick of your mouth

cant say i get sick of his mouth, i just feel the same way about CAMP tearing ppl down... i dont think he thought it was a masterpiece he just wanted to share... Honestly i look at it like devils advocate... In every order you need someone to say something sucks when everyone says something is cool... So i will keep looking forward to your opinions CAMP. Also nice fish bro... Flowerhorn are sweet... is that a good site would you say? somethingsfishy?

next time u get ur cam and the fish together tank a picture of the underside(vent) that helps a lot... or just look in the info sticky and u will be able to sex urself... could be a female that infrtile

Thanks man I will! As for the link. I did get my FH from them. I had no probs at all. In fact I also got an alge eater too at the same time. I lost him do to jumping out of the aquarium a few months later..

Anyway, I guess all I can say is buyer beware. I don't want to have someone place an order and have issues, then come hunt me down.:nilly:

A nicely spoiled little buddy, I see lol I love the colors and yes-personality is everything with these FH's. I'm still really amazed at what an awesome people-personality mine has. When I was asking if someone could sex mine I was told that females get the humps on their foreheads also. And that the dark area by the dorsal indicates female (which yours seems to have). Who knows though? As you know, I'm sure, everyone you ask has a different opinion about Flowerhorns.

If it never laid eggs and it's that aggressive it's probably a male. KOK only comes along when you have a fish with good genes that was bred to have a big KOK. You feed hikari, it's decent stuff. I've never tried danichi but if you want some good food try omega one. I have some extra 5mm pellets, if you're ever out this way I will sell you a lb. for $10.

I have to hand it to CAM....The flowerhorn pictured is a "technical" low grade...Most, if not all Flowrhorns will and do display HIGH RESPONSIVENESS to their keepers....Hopefully you did not pay a lot money for her, thats all.....Get a better one next time....I am from San Francisco.....Most, if not all, of my lfs are right when it comes to grading and pricing....If there is a store selling low grade FlowerHorns at high price, the owner will most definately get a call within a week about dropping the price....So It shames the hobby when someone puts a low grade-5 inch "Flowerhorn" on his shelf for $85......

When this fish came out in 2000, it was a rage amongst mainstreamers....Being a hybrid, most hobbyist and purist looked the other way....

Going to the local Asian food store will provide lots of options...Pick out the cocktail shrimp...Go to your lfs and pick up a bag of frozen bloodworms and krill....Get the frozen food that holds a lot of red in it...

the fish looks like a very big female to me. could be wrong because of the fact it's never laid eggs. most of the time females will at least drop eggs once within a year or so. i'm glad your fav fish is a flowerhorn, that's awesome.

as for the attacks on my boy camp. he only tries to help ppl. and LOW GRADES are everywhere. just because someone says that in a post it doesn't mean the fish is crap or worthless. if the owner is happy with the fish and the fish is healthy, then what more can you ask. unfortunalty with vendors like somethingfishy or other like them sell low grades for a quick buck. so when someone tells you low grade and offers where you can find a higher grade locally then that sounds like a huge help in my book. ppl need to chill a little bit and be open to all possible comments when posting on a forum like this.

Im not offended by the comments. I CAN/DO see what some of the other people on here have with thier FHs and I can tell whats big $$$$ and whats affordable for some others.

When I bought my FH there were not to many places to choose where I could buy one from. I did search the internet for a "high grade" but couldn't find one. When I did, the prices were sooo high I couldn't afford one. And I wouldn't be against spending approx $200.00 for one but if memory serves correct, it was closer to the $500.00 mark.

That to me is waayyy to expensive for what i will allow for budget. Thats a really decent new aquarium for that!

Besides!!!! I will have many, many more FHs in my life:grinno:
