try this it may not help much but why dont u try to get a (midas) or whatever he is it might help thats what ide do. rest in peace to your fish same things going on with my texas dont think its gunna live much longer rip my first cichlid(hopfully not rip but)

I can't just replace him with another midas. He wasn't a pure bred midas so chances are I will never find another fish like him. I already have a lot of other nice big fish. Here is a nice f1 barred midas that I have had since it was a fry and it's not the same at all.

Cam, I missed this thread, I am so sorry! That really sucks. I wish it hadn't happened. Don't leave the hobby though...you won't replace him but you will find another monster sometime.
