Although wrongly referred to as a Texas, an Escondido is NOT a Texas Cichlid.

A Texas Cichlid is Herichthys Cyanoguttatus, a completely different fish than Herichthys Carpintis (location variants are 'Escondido', 'Chariel' & 'Lahillas').

The Gallery posted here ( http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/album.php?albumid=1780 ) is of a Texas, the original posters fish is not a Texas, but a Carpintis, and the fish posted 2 posts prior to mine looks like a hybrid of the 2, hence the problem with the wrong name ID's.

The sooner people quit calling Carpintis a Texas, Green Texas, Blue Texas & all the other Texas names, the sooner the confusion will stop.

Thank you :-) Not to derail but I want to say this every time someone calls a Carpintis a "Texas". That's the problem with common names. Granted I do still have a hard time telling an H.Cyanoguttatus from a Carpinits because of spot size, etc. That just adds to the confusion.
To stay on topic-I always wondered if my 2 Carpinits were male or female. Both lack the dorsal spot. But I see the (proven) female lacks it also. That must not be a reliable way to sex them.
