well i got a good deal on a 55 so i figured it was time to upgrade my baby map turtle and snapper. yes i know bad combo but they are always basking on top of eachother so things are fine for now, but when the snapper starts growing more i have a friend with a big tank just for him.

so i picked the tank up this afternoon and built a above tank basking area for the turtles. out of some scrap wood and scrap acrylic. so i saved alot of money rather than buying the turtle topper. i still have to stain and do the background on it but so far im very happy with how its turning out. so hope you enjoy. and no i didnt cycle the tank i used all the media in their old tank plus some new media and media from the stingray tank.

I once had a 125 gal several years old. Decided I wanted to change it and put in a turtle. He ate it all!!! Turtles are amazing.

lol that they are. i thought about putting them in the 125 but no reason to start it back up just for 2 babies. so its the 55 for the time being. i think after i get rid of the snapper i will get a few more maps and some razorbacks. then myabe throw them all in the 125 and make another atba.

The snapper is going to need something more to rest on at the surface of the water. They are not good swimmers and it can really stress them out if they are always in deep water. Their ideal habitat is 3-5" deep with lots of plant cover when they are that size.

well i guess i could put in some floating drift wood till i get the plants and other items done. but so far he gets onto the ramp and part way up the covered acrylic basking area so he can see everyone walk by.

never had a turtle watch me as much as i watched him before lol.
