My first bichir!

My newest purchase. An ornate bichir. My little bro has a Senegal and loves it, and I've always preferred the ornates and endli's so when I was out rummaging at the local pet stores for some food and dechlorinator I happened upon this little fella. I decided on the spot that he was mine. I brought him home and later that night he ate some shrimp pellets and since then has taken to HBH supersoft pellets, NLS sinking pellets, and blood worms. He's roughly 4 inches long, and is putting on girth pretty quickly. Enough babbling.

Thanks! I hope he is! How big do Ornates really get? I've read up to 24 inches, but what about in an aquarium?

they can get to be pretty large even in an aquarium. What size tank do you have? I have mine in a 125g and in a year it has grown to roughly the size of a fat marker

Right now he's in a 29g, but I've been considering moving him into my 75g because he has been nipping at my rainbows. If he outgrows the 75g, I do have a 125g as well.

Beautiful fish!!, Its growth rate will be very fast in the first year. Feed it lots of varied food and you could be looking at a 15" fish in a year.

Wow! 15 inches?! Thats crazy. I dunno if I want it to grow that fast! Lol!
