Yeah I was going to say that the tank has dozens of feeders in it and yes Ornates will get between 18"-24" in aquariums and depending on feeding and water changes you'll see double to triple growth in the first year
Nice ornate, but if hes nipping at your rainbows now then it wont be long before they are gone and he will need a bigger tank soon if your feeding him enough,a 125 will be ok for quite a while, but id recommend an upgrade, then you can get a few more, which is inevitable lol
Also that substrate could cause problems too.

Nice! So, bichirs get along with each other pretty well? I have some Buenos Aires tetras in my 75g but they are pretty quick. Do you think he will be able to catch them?

Thanks for the help Steve. I have a 125g but there's a full grown oscar in it right now, and I don't want to risk the ornate in that tank just yet. He'll probably be going into the 75g soon though. I don't want my rainbows to fall victim.

He may or may not catch them. Ive had a 4 inch loach in a tank with 14 6"+ bichir for months and they haven't eaten him yet, the potential is there but so far nothing. So you never know, if hes well fed it will decrease the chance.
