I'll try to find the thread he said that in and ID them but they said they had a big ornate and it hopped out and when the guy got home from work his cat was playing with it and it kept whipping around biting at it. Not the first time I've heard of bichirs challenging other pets online. Like one story I found of water wolves I think a while back the dudes terrier dog had actually gotten bit by it when it tried messing with it. I have 3 cats and 2 dogs so if any of my bichirs do make it on the floor, it'll be a bloodbath. Really not trying to hate my cats or dogs forever for killing my poly lol

Ahhhh, the cute little senegal, the intro drug into the polly addiction.

Seriously though it looks good, Bichirs are awesome. I bought my first senegal half a year ago intending on it being the only one.
I now have 6 and am thinking of getting more.....

Similar to Koi, I just got my first a few weeks ago. I was advised to drop in Algae pellets and eventually figured I would move up to feeder fish or shrimp. He seems to be fine, but Im yet to notice him eat. Should there be any concern.

These fish are naturally carnivores and eat meaty food. Try feeding him some carnivore sinking pellets instead of algae pellets. :) You wont need to feed them feeders except for an occasional treat. Feed them a variety of frozen food like peeled shrimp, bloodworms, tilapia fillets, salmon, beefheart and make their main food pellets. :) fish fillets are the cheapest IMO. And if he's new, its normal for them to refuse food. Dont worry they wont starve themselves to death. Ge should start eating soon. Sens are one of the most entertaining polys to watch, just wait for him to relax and feel comfortable. Try reading some of the stickies here too for more information. :)

Guys, is it normal for my Senegal to sit at the bottom most of the time? He is fine, eats well, and everything. Just not very active.

Uhh yea? Thats basically all bichirs do, they sit around then do a lap of the tank then find another place to sit around. Perfectly normal

very normal especially for larger polys as they become larger they'd need more and more food to keep being active so they just sit and conserve their energy

I know they can be slackers, but with everything ive read about Senegals being so active, I kinda think there's something missing.
