My First Big Boy Tank!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There you go, once you get a big tank there is no going back! When you start thinking 75g-100g tanks are small "Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enters". Looks great by the way. What type of Veija are you thinking? I just picked up 3 Argentia

I've been eying a section of my basement that could be potentially turned into a fish room in the not so distant future. If I go that route, I'm thinking a huge 1000gal plywood tank. 3 silver aros swimming around. I have a sickness.

Back to reality. I'm wanting synspilums, argenteas, bifasciatus, c. microphthalum, zonatus, bocourti, reganis .....what ever I get my grubby little hands on. Grow them out and keep the ones I really, really like .

What are you planning to stick it with great job on the stand btw

I wasn't planning to use any adhesive since I want access to under the tank. I would do it the same way I did with the foam that are covering the glasses right now, and that is just simply wedging the foam panels into place. However, I did use silicone to put the foam canopy together and its holding great and it doesn't seem to have any negative reactions with the foam.

Nifty with your hands, arent ya?

Looks wicked.

Now that's what I call a big boy stand!...Really nice but how did get the tank inside of the framing?

From Monday through Friday my day starts at 4:45am and I don't get home until around 5:30pm. I get home and its supper, cleaning up after supper, spend time with kiddies before their bed time, and by then its 9pm. Then I get everything ready for the next day and I'm in bed between 9:30-10:00. Point is, there isn't a whole lot of time to do much else during the week. So, the weekend is my only time to work on fish stuff. Well, that's after taken care of home chores, fish cleaning, going to kiddies' sports games, family functions, etc. Point again is that there's not a whole lot to work on fish project(s). That's essentially the reason why my 180 is still not complete after a month and a half. Good thing I had a week, off from work, at the beginning of all this when I got the tank.

Well, here's what I did this weekend

These are uptake and returns for my canisters to replace the original tubes. The original tubes do not fit the back of the tank due to the design of my stand, so I had to make these. I'll have some pics once they're installed. Right now, I'm just letting them fully cure.

The 2 front studs that's covering the front top and bottom frames of the tank are removed, then screwed back on once the tank is situated on the stand.

Oh okay.I kept looking at the photos and trying to figure out if the tank was lowered into place( no way lol!)or angled in somehow.

Had Monday off, so once the kids were in bed Sunday night, I got back to work on the 180. Tonight, I wanted to setup my 2nd canister, install new diy pvc uptake/return tubes, and finish rigid foam insulation.

There's only about 16" of space behind the tank, so working behind there was a *****!

Here's a shot of the 2 Aquatop/Sunsun canisters

With the plumbing finally in place, now I can finish my insulation panels. Much happier now that the foam canopy sitting flush

Found a cool looking branch on the property and thought it would look cool in the tank. The inhabitants seems to really dig the branch too. They're constantly swimming in and out of it. It seems like the structure makes them feel safer.
