Hey MFK,
Some of you might know my current arapaima project (at the arowana section), for the ones who don't, you can go and visit, and maybe even leave a helpful comment.
So anyways, I bought three baby Cichla, sold to me as C. temensis. I wasn't looking for any species of Cichla in specific, so I'm really cool with them.
When I say baby cichla, I really mean it, none was larger than 3cm when bought, this kinda represented a challenge for me since babies are definitely weaker and specially if it's my first time with this genus. But I went straight ahead with it considering the fact I've been doing great raising babies from scratch lately, including my Pima and some other featherfin cichlids and other african cichlids.
The guy from the LFS was feeding them with live tubifex, which I personally dislike. I'm currently feeding them with frozen brine shrimp, which after seeing several posts from this section looks like a big achievement, based on the fact they're hard to remove from live food.
I'll keep them on a small place until they've reached a certain size and strength, then I'll eventually move them to a larger aquarium and will stay there until they're large enough to live with the Arapaima.
They're eating like piranhas, such an amazing appetite, making them grow really fast and always have a nice and round belly.
So considering the fact that this is my first time with Cichla, I think I'm doing quite well, even though they're definitely different from most cichlids based on their social behavior and how they form some sort of a "wolfpack" and live by it.
Here's some pictures for you.
These are recent
This is from the first day I got them.
