My first Datnoid! Need feeding suggestions and others!!!

Ya that was a first for me! Doing better today. Raised temp a few degrees and eating bloodworms some. I expected a transition period it was just crazy how good he did the first day!
 
Don't take it wrong but I think you're over thinking this whole thing. lol Your ITs behavior is common especially when you first get them. He's going dark because he's out of his comfort zone, it could take a few days, weeks or even months before he becomes fully comfortable around you and his new environment. I just bought a 5" IT about 3 weeks ago, the picture I saw of him was fully stable color but when I got him home he went unstable/darkened up. He's taking pellets every few days now and he's starting to stabilize. What I'm saying is it just takes time. Your's will become comfortable with you over time, if you can make him realize you=food it should speed up the process. Most of my dats were unstable at first, I was lucky enough to also have a few stablize as soon as the his the water in my tank.. Just give him some places to hide and try to get him on market shrimp or pellets if possible, like I said before try all of my dats seem to be attracted to the "fishier" foods.
