Haha the fittings ordered from Amazon arrived
but as expected- did not fit inside the tube protruding out of the tank.
it would be super helpful if the Amazon supplier had the measurements for the inside diameter, but live and learn.
I have been cutting glass tonight. I had a 6’ panel that allowed me to make 2 pieces that would fit inside the 270. Which allowed for one piece to be for practice if needed. Sure enough, I needed to practice.
for all the people out there complaining about how expensive fish tanks are, you need to understand, there is a lot of skill involved in this process. Not everyone can do it. And the thicker the glass is, the harder it is to cut. I totally understand the value of a well built tank, and respect the prices of a well built tank.
I cut my initial piece to fit inside, then before I did any of the technical or hard cuts, or drilled any holes I figured I would try to see if it would fit. I’m really happy I spent the money on suction cups at this point, it would have been impossible to do with out them. I got the piece in but it was super nerve wracking because of how it was touching both panes on each side. Then I had yet another facepalm moment when I realized I had measured incorrectly from inside panel to inside panel, rather than leaving a small gap for caulking to fill in. I managed to wiggle it out of there, with minimal damage. Dang this one was on me entirely. Measure once and cut twice right?..?
what this means is I have to try and cut a piece of 0.5” off of a 12mm glass
which is much more difficult than it sounds. I still have yet to conquer this one but hope to have it figured out by the weekend or sooner ??

I had an audience tonight. This guy is my little buddy, almost like he was cheering me on. He must know this is for his future breeding tank or something lol.

turns out drilling holes aren’t as scary as I thought. Still not very pretty yet, but I got a hole in the glass.
