You didnt sedate it??
Being a veterinary nurse, watching that video made me cringe the whole way through. No anaesthetic, non sterile environment, non sterile scissors.. ugh.

Keep a very close eye on that little fella. Make sure you watch for signs of infection and give him a stress free environment until that fully heals.

Okay, as vet nurse #2, I had the EXACT same intitial thoughts and gut reaction.

However, that being said, I was glad to hear the scissors were at least very well cleaned. Sounds like they were as close to a cold sterilzation as you were going to get in a home environment. And I get not wanting to put him under full sedation. Even with all my experience sedating mammals, I am very hesitant to use sedation on my fish. How sedation affects one species may be totally different than another (referring to one species of fish to another). The risk of killing it goes up exponentially the moment you knock them out. Even just using a little too much may not kill it immediately but cause organ damage.

And yes. Watch out for infection, but it sounds like so far so good. I hope it grows back well for you.
