Depends on their genetics and can take a while.
So you got me thinking today about genetics and the only way is to either track down the parents or track down the breeder. Did soon snooping around and found a few post about red apple flowerhorn. Tracked them down to a lfs down in Dallas. Went on their website And got see a few of his brothers. But no luck on the parents. So I'm guessing these must have come from a breeder from out of the country. I looked at the owners name and knew instinstanly that the breeder was Vietnamese. So I look up breeders in Vietnam and here is what I find. But I can't tell if they are from the same batch or not. What do you guys think?

They all look like nice fish to me with plenty of potential, lol.
Yes they are beautiful specimens. So now i don't have to wonder if he's a zz or kamfa. But that's for the awesome comments and input. I appreciate you guys and this forum.
One last pic. Before lights out.

The guy who distributes the red apple line here in the US is a guy named An Nguyen. He imports them and sells them here in the US. They typically go for anywhere from $180-250 ea. Good looking fish. The only reason I know this is because I follow the guys page on Facebook lol

Wow amazing fish. Loving the solid flowerlime from front to back. Good size kok he has.

What are you feeding him for kok enhancement? Or what is everyone feeding their fish to make their heads and color come out? I feed mine cut up shrimp with out skin or head in the morning. Sumo red when get him and more cut up shrimp when I go to sleep. I throw in a blood worms or beef hearts once a week. And to keep him aggressive, I pick out a red healthy looking, Molly/swordtail/guppies. I know it's like 2-3 dollars a week on one live fish. But it keeps him happy and aggressive. Friend told me to keep a small 5 gallon tank and treat them be for feeding my fish. Killing two birds with one stone. Give him food and meds in one go.

The main reason i bought him was because of the flowerline and i think he is getting a 2nd one...i feed a high protein food ,cichlid gold and cichlids a sticks and bloodworm i try not to use feeders because of parasites im going to add 10 danios as dither fish so he can chase them and if he eats them they are to slow...lol
