My First Motoro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Doesn't look too bad, but I do see some hip bones though. After this guy starts packing on some weight, you should begin weaning onto pellets. Remember to feed until your ray cannot eat anymore as thats the only way to know that they're full. For first time ray keepers, they're able to eat A LOT more than you think.

Hi en71ce
most comments are positive to questions asked but there always seems to be the odd people on here who try for whatever reason to offend others
take the positives from this forum and you will not go far wrong as there are some very experienced ray keepers on here who will give that info willingly

Hey man nice ray and dont listen to some of the people on here that go out of there way to offend people and think they know everything a good friend of mine has had 2 Motoro rays in a 75 gallon for 3 years now and they are healthy and doing great on regular tank gravel from Petsmart so you do what you want to do and dont listen to everything you hear on here!

Based on this article http://www.scielo.br/pdf/bjb/v70n1/22.pdf, and my general believe in how to feed stingrays (and other fishes for that matter), i do not agree that you should feed them untill they are full and can`t eat anymore - at least not on a regular basis. I belive it would be a much more healthy thing to feed them smaller amounts several times a day.
Yes they are able to eat relatively big amounts of food - but that doesn`t necessarily mean its good for them to get "packed" every day..

I think the comment was meant to say that you can only guage when a ray is full when it stops feeding, this is a good way to find out the maximum they will eat but you wouldnt necessarily do it all the time.

I also prefer to feed little and often but they never cease to amaze me with what they can eat.

TO THE OP: Lovely looking Ray and he looks a nice size. I expect he will slow his growth now that he is mature. Keep us up to date with his progress. Thanks for posting up.

Yes, it's more of a gauge when you first start off. Eventually, you get the feeling of when to stop and what is best. Theres just too many situations where some new keepers just assume its enough and the ray just starts turning into a skeleton.
