Hi guys.

First time pike owner, and i must say, these have been the 5 most incredible hours of my fishkeeping carrier.

This guy is ferocious! He has eaten no less than 7 feeders since he got in the tank about 5 hours ago!
He is about 5" right now.

Anyway, i'm here to ask whether or not the vendor was correct in it being a Cr. Saxatilis?
Also he said it will grow to about 12", is this correct?

Thanks,
Tom

Ps. Sorry for the bad shots, he is very scared of me still.
But when i walk 2 ft. away from the tank he swims all over the place and fights with the firemouthe's

It is a Saxatilis type pike, not sure which, unless you got some collection information, you likely will never know exactly what it is. I would say that you won't have any more tetras in the tank within the next few days if not hours. Congrats on the pick up, they are very interactive fish and they love to eat.

P.S. I would say that 8-9" is a better bet for max size.

Yes, he is still just a juvie :) And thanks for the kind words. I will check out those venezualen's!

Thanks BigPic for your input. yes, i figured as much as the tetras would go pretty quick :p

Sweet pike! Looks like it's going to be a beauty when it grows up.

Yeah, it's ridiculous how many feeders pikes will scarf down. I put 100 feeders in to keep my 4 busy when I was introducing some new fish and they were gone by the end of the day.

It does look like it could be Crenicichla saxatilis, could you get a close up of the head? Particularly of the suborbital mark?

Gorgeous fish no doubt about it! They are definitely awesome as well, you'll soon be soon hooked you'll be setting up tanks just for them! :D

+1 on what Ray said about the tetras...
