my first pikes

Well, you picked a pretty awesome one to start with! I'm sure that you will have nothing but success with them. Just give her a place to get away if they break the bond for a while, they should come back to getting along.

they were beaten badly overnight :( The female was gone....the male was barely breathing.

It had to be the C. dimerus. I saw the female minuano and female dimerus going at it last night but thought they could work it out.....apparently not!

Who wants a breeding pair of w/c C. dimerus? :irked::irked::irked::irked:

Ah man that sucks dude I am really sorry to hear that. How does the male look now?

sorry to hear about that. thats always the trouble with cichlids.

That is terrible news! Sorry to hear that. It's bad enough when one kills the other, but, when another fish comes in, especially one that is "normally" demure, that hurts even more IMHO.

I feel terrible. The dimerus rule the tank and chase everybody around, but I didn't think it would be so bad. I was actually concerned that the minuano might bully the dimerus.

Had the dimerus for a few of months and I didn't realize they had grown so much until I added the pikes - the dimerus were actually larger... still, never thought they'd be so aggressive...perhaps they felt threatened.... :(

wow, never thought the dimerus would have it in them. i would say ok to taking them but i wouldn't trust them with my gymnos or pike, atleast till she got bigger.

I wonder if the dimerus recongized the threat to furture fry the pikes presented, I have often heard people that mix dwarf pikes and apistos comment that the apistos tend to face off with the pikes quite a bit, which makes sense as noto's have been seen hunting in the leaf litter for apisto fry ...

deffinately sucks to hear though. :(
