My first piranha: Can somebody help identify him?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IME this is a sanchezi, or red throated piranha. Less expensive and agressive than rhoms.

CLEARLY.. I asked what rhom you have seen with a red adipose.. you posted in reply, a picture of a rhom with no red fins at all.. CLEARLY .. then you get mad that you confused yourself? And please stop iming me your you attempts to insult me are Clearly ammusing me..

It does have similar characteristics of a sanchezi but still doesnt explain the coloration of the adipose.. I also believe that if it were sanchezi the level of red over the operculum and breast would be much more intesnse.. also the pictures do not clearly show a hyaline edge to the caudal fin.. someone please correct me if im wrong

what are you man 10? i'm not trying to attempt to insult you grow up bud

i feel stupid because cepon is right 100% his adipose fin is red/yellow, the only reason i was thrown off was because i couldnt see any spots, now why the hell would anyone be argueing with cepon?!? he the expert on herE anyone argueing with him looks dumb. sorry for my early not well thought out id on your fish.

Looks like Serrasalmus sanchezi based on the pics posted

My point is not to have anyone apologize bro.. sorry for reacting the way that i did.. The idea of a rhom is not far fetched, he does look like a young rhom by the contour of the body..but to me thats where the similarities end.. i guest most will say rhom, at first glance so like i said before my apologies.. i also didnt mean to "yell" with the caps on.. i dint realize that they were on.. it was meant more as a "Powerful" question.. Any way.. its a nice fish anyways no matter what the people here call it..

thanks. I like him too. I just hope I don't have a carnivorous agressive 16" fish on my hands in a couple months!

this looks just like my dude except maybe in a little bit better shape. I added some aquarium salt and it seems to be helping the fins. He's awful shy though. Is there anyway to make them more more extroverted? He hides behind the plants all day. I'm thinking about adding a couple more fake mangrove roots (have one now, he likes it) and take most of the fake plants out. Just rocks, driftwood, fake mangroves, and I'm gonna get some floating plants. I also thought about adding blackwater extract. Thoughts?

he probably will take awhile to become less shy, all my serrasalmus species piranha are shy, although my 3inch my elongatus isnt too shy. but who knows it may get less shy, i use blackwater extract, it makes the water look yellow but it adds tanins.
