if it's only 1 bulb and you have some 400$ plants thats like .5 wpg you probally need like 2-3wpg and if you want them to be more lush and green EVEN more and need a co2 system to prevent algae and i dont recommend leaving lights on for more then 12 hours without co2

55 for the whole tank?

the general standby for wattage rules is atleast 2 wpg, theres a few plants that require over 3wpg. also if your tanks abnormally high for the size you may need more wpg.

so at 2wpg for 200 gallon tank is 400 watts.
 
hold on i will look up the rules for larger tanks as the rule starts to break down over a 100 gallons.

that might scrap by a lil if it's on for 12-14 hours, i think it's the temp then because i have tried to keep plants with discus i keep temp around 88 and the plants keep dying and i never put in plants since:(

ok then i might just have to take out the plants and put it in a holding tank. when my datnoid gets better from ichs then ill put the plants back in if its to hot. thnx for the advice ppl.
 
well i found the closest relation for tank size watts=22.65 x Gallons^0.46

edit: important thats gallons to .46 power
