My first planted, this light cool?

Good luck... I think you will be happy with it... all my plants are!

I dose with flourish occasionally, but other than that all my plants grow like weeds.

Do you get any algae with these lights? I guess what I am trying to say is are these lights considered low or medium light? For a 29 gallon with a depth of 17ish inches to the substrate. I just don't want to get these and they be too high of light. I have some excel to dose to kick start the tank but after about 2 months I am gonna pull it. I will be dosing ferts.

A 20 long is only like 12 inches deep without substrate. This normal-output T5 is the way to go. Anyhting brighter will turn your tank into an algae farm cuz there's no way you would dose enough ferts/CO2 to match that much PAR. Maybe T5HO would work, but its twice as much money...and you would need full-on hi tech CO2 & lots of ferts to keep up with it.

I still think though at a depth of around 17/18 inches 2 of these T5NO bulbs would give it enough light, maybe even too much. Thats what I am trying to figure out. WIth lower lights, like a duel T8 things grow slow and steady. But with this fixture of its too much you can't do anything about it. Thats the situation I dont wanna be in.

I just figured since the prices are close why not go for the better light. But the one thing I want to avoid, like everyone, is too much light.

I think it makes enough light, but I don't think the Coralife reflector is good enough to run a tank 18in deep... I think I would personally go T5HO at that depth, but thats just me. If you're planning to STAY lowtech, it may work just fine.

Cool. There's a massive selection of T8 lamp tubes out there to choose from. Let us know which ones you have success with.
