My first Poly

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I keep mine with tinfoil bards, though they're not as effective as algae eaters but pretty mellow as tankmates

another update..

i got a few congo tetras, scissor tails, tinfoils and 2 gouramis.. had to trade in my leopard pleco which was really sad :(.. for the first week or so everything was great.. my poly was very active.. sometimes he swam with the other fish and i always watched in anticipation for him to eat one of them, but nothing happened..

this morning i checked up on the tank and saw a tetra missing. as expected my poly was chilling in the sand with a fat belly.. so we all know what happened.. he's officially a killer.. wish i saw him in action though..

just a question on digestion. won't the bones of fish he eats affect him or cause him to choke? that's my only concern. i don't mind the murders, just don't want to lose my poly. he's about 4" now

My delhezi is almost constantly hunting my congos for the last several months and I've only had one get eaten.
Make sure you have a good number of congos, I think they kind of startle as a group as soon as one notices the poly ready to attack. I also noticed they'll hang out near the bottom if they're not in a group, which is prime bichir attack territory. In 30 gallons you might just not have enough room though.

I keep mine in 75, soon to be upgraded to a 120 or 150.

another 2 congos have lost their lives.. massivore is on its way though.. hope it gets here soon..

I've also noticed that tinfoils eat everything, even their own ****.. that's just crazy.. i guess that's why they grow so fast..
