My first ray

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Awesome.

Right, those shrimp can be gut loaded if you can set up a separate tank for them.

Feed them flake or crushed up pellets etc.
Soon as they've had a good feed catch some and throw them in with the ray. Then the Ray can get the nutrition from the flakes/pellets.

Post a pic of the ray after feeding.

I would keep on with the ghost shrimps, maybe for a week, build the Ray up so its healthy and you can't see the back bone/hips.

It will need to be in better condition before you start to try and starve/wean it onto dead foods.
Make sure you gut load all the shrimps before offering them as food so that the Ray can maximise it intake of good nutrients. It's a slow process now, to build the Ray up before weening but it's more important you've got it feeding, well done.

Looking a little better.
Personally I'd keep the lights off, for sometime until it improves.

Make sure there's always shrimp in the tank. Because they're alive you don't need to worry they'll foul the water like uneaten frozen prawn or pellets

Live food like ghost shrimp can be a slippery slope. Harder to get him off of it now, but you gotta make sure it's fed, so it's a difficult balance. If it were me, get him as fat as you can quickly, and then try never to feed them again. Try blood worms or frozen ghost shrimp. There are tons of ideas on how to get rays eating other food, I'm sure if you can't find them some of us can post here, I find its all about mixing and soaking.

Here's a thought, if you have a way, get him hungry, drop in a ghost shrimp, get him to eat it, drop in a second one, get him to eat it, and try to trick him with something else on the third go. It will help when he responds to you as a food source. Maybe once he takes dead ones you can try stuffing a pellet inside somehow. Either way keep going man, with a bit if patience you'll get it, rays can be fragile but i also think they can be pretty hardy at times as well so a bit of starvation (once it gets fatter) is not a bad thing.
