My first sump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks everyone! Yeah I wish I could go as big as possible to cut down future cost but I'm working with some space restraint right now so the 55 will have to do. And I'll definitely check out Joey's videos, I've seen them before but will have to go check them ou again.
Also, I actually have a bunch of the k1, and k3 caldness medias (several gallons). Are those fine to use for a wet/dry sump even though they are mainly associated with fluidized filters?

You could also use filter socks for mech and have an open sump with no baffles. Just bio media and the return pump. To save money you can build the sock holder from egg crate.

55 should be fine since you have it. As for wet dry vs fluidized the determining factor for me was noise. My wet dry is loud but the fluidized seem very loud. Idk if you have the k1 though that will reduce your cost significantly. Put scrubbies and lava rock are cheap but it adds up
