This is exactly my point. Why should he or anyone catch flak ? Unless the fish are being beaten on and the owner isnt strpping in to rectify it why the need to catch flak.

I for one am here because I'm home sick so you guys may have me on and off all day lol... the main thing for me though is Angelphish talking about Red tiger motaguense which is my current and favorite species.. .Jaws777 mentioned that some people who never had the species offered advice, but just like I don't think you have to have had to get shot to know what it would be like in the tell somebody else they shouldn't get shot I don't think you necessarily have to have had the species in this case to warn them about the dangers... but anyway ,I got them so I'm adding my two cents lol... I truly enjoy talking about the species and sharing information and possibly being helpful to someone when questions arise... I think I get where Jaws 777 is coming from..he's like he's already been told so let's move on already and let him find out on his own, and not try to tell him what he can and cannot do with his 210 gallon tank.... but since this is a discussion forum let's discuss and give friendly advice..and drag it out and beat a dead horse lol..long as we're respectful to each other it could go on indefinitely........

Lol yes exactly whay i mean. I stopped counting at 10 for how many times he was told it wouldnt work. Im just saying the guy seems knowledgeable and seems to care about his fish.
He wants to give it a go i hope he succeeds im sure the rest of you want the same but at some point dont the replies that start with "as others have said" just get a little redundant. Justarn covered all the pitfalls. Again an open forum but maybe it would be better served in discussing possible ways or suggestions on how it COULD work since 2 pages covered how it wont.

I may be inclined to discuss ways this could work if I believed it could. I don't think there is a strategic way to approach the situation knowing the fishes behaviour.
No matter how many caves, line of sight breaks or increased flow rates will stop a territorial rtm from being a territorial rtm.One day I believe the fish will snap and when that happens fish die.
The last thing I would want for the op or his fish is for this situation to occur. I get no enjoyment out of saying it won't work I just feel it's the most probable out come. Would it be better not to risk it and think of another option that is less likely to end badly?
I think so, for the sake of the other fish and for the sake of the op.

He's doing fine atm. I moved all the decor to the side of the tank the other fish don't like, so now he rarely sees the other fish. He's become a lot more peaceful so when he does see the other fish he rarely chases them.

It's possible that since none of them are a threat he doesn't see the need to prove himself. I hope it keeps working for you

Fish don't prove themselves, only to the opposite sex at least.
Those other fish are OK while it suits him.
When the rtm feels safe in his environment he may start looking at the other fish.
A water change may make him feel like breeding for example and if that happens he will want that tank to himself. Fish like angels won't stand a chance. There will be no time for finding a divider,just a net to get out the dead.
This situation really is fish Russian roulette.
We have not even discussed the opposite water preferences of the species housed together but it seems a little secondary compared with the compatibility issues.
To be honest, bringing an rtm home knowing what fish it will be kept with,was not the smartest of moves.
I don't get this philosophy of it may work when the odds are so low.These are living creatures after all.If you want to gamble,do it with cards.Not live animals.

Nearly three weeks in and still no issues. He's showing improvement as far as aggression, as he rarely chases the fish anymore.

About a week ago I bought a couple Electric Blue Acaras, as they were only $5 a piece, and I've been looking for some for a while. They're both about 2" long, so the mota could pick on them if he wanted to, but he has shown no interest in then so far. He's had plenty of time to show aggression too, as I've had the Acaras for a week.

I'm beginning to think my Mota isn't like the rest.

He might not be, there can be quite a difference between individuals in any species. Just keep a close eye on him, if he does turn he could quite easily kill every thing in your tank in minutes.
