My first try at a sand tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
only problem I've found with sand is that it "looks" dirtier... faster... especially white sand.. poop and debris find a low area and sit there.. where a gravel bottom kinda hides it.. but that just makes you pull the ole siphon out faster... I prefer the look especially with africans...

looks good ;)

keep some flow on the bottom and you'll never have to worry about crap settling. Stir the sand once and a while and all will be ok.

Looks awesome Steve!!

I find sand easier to clean as all the poop tends to settle in only a few locations dictated by the current in the tank. When its time for me to do my sceduled w/c I get the python started, zap up the few spots of collected poo, close the lid of the tank on top of the python so the opening of the python is at a desired level for draining the tank, crack open beer, sit and watch football until tank has drained the amount determined by how far down in the tank I left the end of the python.

Only problem with sand is, if you algae scrub no matter what you use or how careful you are you WILL scratch your tank!
