guys im really new here and i think i need help....i took a trip to my local fish store a some months ago sometime in the atumum of 07. I bought two silver finned sharks aka the CatfishShark. I had them in a wimpy 10 gallon tank lol with tiger barbs as tank mates..not to long l8ter THE THINGS GET BIGGER AND KILL THE TIGER BARBS....im like WTF...anyway i go online and find out these things get to be 2ft long and they need to be in saltwater cause duh there SHARKs.....and dumb sales person ...(i need to calm down) the guy a the store told me none of this...so..besides the fact that i need a bigger tank...wat other info/help can u give me.......wow i typed a lot..........

They arn't true sharks BTW
They actually max out at about a foot, and im surprised they killed the barbs, unless they just ate them.
They should be converted at about 4-5''

They'll be happy in a 75. (I think they like a low level of salt in there water) Buy it used, you can find some nice stuff on the classifieds here.
Of course, the bigger, the better. :)

I also think they are a shoaling fish, I'd get a couple more once you upgrade. (have 5 maybe?)

They should be in full SW :)

Ok ... well ... :welcome: to MFK Lets see a pic of these "Catfishsharks" or Silver finned Sharks" as your calling them... There is a problem with LFS's selling all types of fish with mis-labeled names, I beleive and I think everyone else here Beleives that you have a "Columbian Shark" or the "Hexanematichthys seemanni" is the fancy latin name for it. For the newbie this is a harder fish to keep alive because it does have some special requirements (but since your showing an interest in keeping it alive I'm sure you'll do just fine). These Fish rarly grow larger than 12" in home aquariums and needs to be kept in 3 different types of water if you want to follow it's natural migration trends. They are born in Fresh water, then slowly migrate through the river systems (increasingly brackish-not fresh but not salt) of Central America and will end up as an adult in full marine (salt water) They will migrate back into the fresh water systems for breeding purposes. Most People are able to keep them quite healthy and happy by starting the migration to brackish water once the fish has reached around 4-6"

Hope this helps :D

thanks ....the guy at my LFS said my fish will grow according to my tank size....is this true

no thats not true
cuz my longnose gar almost outgrew a 10g tank and it would have if i didnt get a 55g for him.
if im wrong about anything feel free to correct me.

so it is true??

srry for the extra reply but i think thiey grow to the size of the tank but it stunts their growth therefore not a fully healthy fish. right??
