Mine did the same for a long time. That is why I made it a habit to stick my arm or some very long tongs in the tank daily to do something for a few moments atleast.
Basically you have to train them to understand that you mean them no harm.
My biggest Tat has gotten to the point where I have to touch him to get him to moveout of the wat so i can adjust a plant or some drift would. Of course his response is darting to the other side of the tank and jaw flapping like crazy for a moment or two. lol
Thats how mine is.They are still prone to a random nose bash from time to time though.Took me a month of heavy salt and high temps to get the color back in there noses.So now I find myself sneaking around my own house so they don't spook.The joys of a predator tank.....
