my fish R jumping a lot more recently

Could be a learned behavior. I have fish in separate tanks, different species (a Redhook and a Green Severum) that will jump and hit their glass lids looking for food. Again different species and separate tanks. They have tank mates, but are the only two that do it regularly.
 
the thing is, there have always been minute little things in filters.
one tank has hob, one an overflow with drip tray, and others have canisters.
I have noticed some fish look up at surface before jumping, but everything is the same as before with water flow & bubbles etc.
So maybe you're onto a possibility.

Yeah, but things go through cycles... maybe those things are having a population explosion. My media slowly starts to raise up out of the water as it gets dirty which gives fresh feed for these things. I can see something like that contributing to a sudden explosion of springtails, which has a life span of days.
