MY FISH TANK AND TANK MATES!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Man there are a few too many noobs on this thread. I hope for the life you me that RTC finds a new home by the end of the week. But, The rest of the tank is honestly awesome. Sometimes we flame when flame may be needed, or when we are short tempered. It is always deserving of an apology. So, I'm sorry. But, "Your doing it wrong."

Read it.Says, plans on a 300 gal or heated pond in the future. Many people get these or pacu, with the best intentions of upgrading later but for whatever reason it never happens and the fish suffer therefore. This is why You need the tank before the fish. An RTC needs much more than a 300 gal.

To the op, good loking fish and hope all works out for the rtc.
There have been plenty of examples on this website of people who do end up upgrading to very large tanks/ponds, so what makes you so sure that he won't?

I do agree though, an RTC needs much more than 300g, but just because he said that he is going to upgrade to a 300g doesn't necessarily mean that will be his final tank. Sometimes it is better to ask before you tell, and I think there are a lot of people on here who need to learn that.

Good job on your tank. Upgradeing is inevitable so sit back and enjoy your tank for a few months and then start your monster build. You have about 6 to 8 months with proper nutrition. So plan and enjoy for a few and then get on with the build. And post pics of your project when you build lots and lots of pics. Good luck.

this red tail is only in this tank until he reaches about 10" to 12" before he goes in my uncle's pond which is 1100 gal but thanks for all the comments!!!!!!

I could not agree more. All too often someone posts a pic of a large-growing fish in a smaller tank and so many people jump the gun and jump down the OP's throat talking about a larger tank and "do research before you buy" and what not....how about "do research before you comment"? Ask the person if they have a plan as the RTC grows larger before you just assume that they don't know and turn preachy on them.

/end rant :)

Jason - I have to disagree. 304 people have read this thread when I'm typing this, and I imagine quite a few would have some opinions.

In this particular case, some people may be misinformed. But is it not the OP's responsibility to explain the situation fully, to avoid misunderstanding or "flaming" from other people?

Regarding the notion of "I'm thinking about getting a bigger tank for my fish in the future", I'll cite Vinny - "You can get it? Well get it. Then we'll fight".

I did read the whole thing and agree on tanking up in stages, I did own a rtc in the past and started it out the same way before going into my pond. This is what happened they will eat any fish that fits in their mouth plus fake plants and rocks they should be only with big fish and other large cats. When I first saw the pics I smiled and said that torpedo shape jag is the first to go. The rtc will grow 75% faster than any fish you have, mine put 3inches on in just 1 MONTH ! I would seperate them for now ..hey and have fun with the rtc..try hand feeding him they are great pets very personable.
