my fish tank smells

my 180 stinks !
smells fishy, bitter
im did a 70 % wc 30 mins ago
im doing another now
i added a boat load of carbon (about a liter )
my nitrates are 5 ppm
theres no algea my filters are all clean
theres nothing dead in there
dude what else can i do?

Sounds like the only thing not checked is the gravel, if you have any. There might be anerobic pockets.

Otherwise, it could be normal or your imagination.(not putting you down, just that I think I smell things in mine every once in a while too. If I keep sniffing enough, I eventually think I'm smelling something) I would just keep it covered real good with glass lids. Any air pumps feeding the system will still turn over the air plenty.

Might be the city water. Do a test on the stright tap.

Do you feed Carnivore or Massivore pellets? I know my tanks get a funk for a few hours after feeding those.

its the substrate trust me lol mine did this until a raked it

also do you use prime? It says it will cause a sulfer smell.

yeah when i first used prime and the next day noticed the smell i freaked and di more water changes and after about 3 i noticed the warning on the bottle.

if using HOB check em, i know after a little while my hob's start to stink.......
