My Fish Won't Eat Their Veggies

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Spirulina is the mainstay breakfast for fish in this house.........when they say veggie they're talkin' about vegatation more so than vegatable. To the best off my knowledge Romaine lettuce does not grew in the rift lakes of africa however algae does - spirulina is the substitute for algae that i use both in pellet form (hikari excell)
and flake (omega veggie formula for cichlids). Another way to get them "veggies" is grow your own - live plants in the tank they can graze on at will. Throw out your alga-fix and you'll find in time all the veggies they need grow in your tank.

Mine go nuts for blanched Zucchini

If using Omega one use Omega one super veggie its first ingredient is listed at spirulina or kelp the Omega one veggie flakes lists fish meal as its first ingredient..

I highly recommend one to stay away from the stuff that list fish meal as its first ingredient if your looking for a true spirulina flake or pellet..

HBH 8 veggie is also a good spirulina so is wardleys spirulina disks - ingredients is the ticket..

i slice zucchini, yellow squash and cucumbers into long slices-freeze them and then rubberband them to little rocks and drop them in the tank- do that a few times, and the fish will get used to them and eat them. thats what i do for my africans.

Hmm, that is interesting, but makes sense. I saw in a fish catalog that they sell little veggie clips with suction cups on them for this very purpose. I need to grab some stuff at the LFS tomorrow, so I will pick one up.

Thanks all,
