Hello friends.. i always lean on this group for advise. I got my flowerhorn last sunday ,he was very chirpy and happy however since yesterday i think he has become kind of dull. He moves slowly and stay on the bottom of the tank. I feed him 5 pellet thrice a day ( he is about 4inch) . Today in the morning he seemed to be disinterested in the food that he was chewing the pellets and then throwing them out of the mouth. Is he happy ?is he ok ? i love him a lot.. please help . I am share a video taken today

Sounds like something may just be stressing him out, or he wasn’t hungry. I would try cleaning the tank and see if he perks up in cleaner water.

tank looks small. add like a safe ball to the water to float. Flowerhorns are very personable and will play with it. I would also get a 50 gallon at least for his size currently.

That tank is way to small for this FH. The lighting might be stressing him out too. Try keeping those red lights off more then on. My blue antic lights on my tank make my flowerhorns freak out. So needless to say I don't use those lights. Also make sure your water parameters are good too. FH are super sensitive to changes in PH and Nitrate/Nitrite levels. Let us know.

Yes friends noted
1.will get him a bigger tank
2. I have been siphoning 20% of water every 2 days when I m cleaning his tank
3. Ok , will not use the red light

today’s update : he is not eating with enthusiasm.. he is taking in one pellet at a time and spitting it out. He does this couple of times and then crushes it . Finally will eat it.

Sounds like he doesn't like the texture of the food. Try pre-soaking the food before feeding and see if the softer texture pleases him more or not. I had that same problem with my bluegill and other sunfish.

What does his poop look like? Could be a parasite. Usually fish that start getting sick may show signs of a loss of appetite. kno4te kno4te could probably better diagnosis if there are any issues!

Think a few things have been mentioned. Check the water parameters and post the numbers if u have a test kit. Not sure if test kits are available in Mumbai but try to get one if u don’t have it. If not then atleast 50% water changes a week or twice a week. . Please get a bigger tank and put some decor in the tank. Like a cave and fake plants. So it can have a hiding place. I’d try feeding pellets soaked with bloodworms juice. Do these things first and see how it responds.
