My Flowerhorn growth updates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Water is looking good from the test strips and I am doing weekly water changes but I found out doing research and asking Chris my temp should be closer to 80 degrees and up? I figured out this past weekend I was at low 70s whole time? So I turned the heater up and its up around 82 degrees now? not sure if my heater will get it any higher. Not sure but he seems more active now.

He seems to want to come near me but doesnt follow my hand or try to attack the glass like the first day I got him...so my guess is its a slow process. So eventually he should lose the black?

Yeah 82 is fine. Try mirroring him, maybe that will help him build confidence. You say he was more aggressive when you got him and he isn't anymore? Maybe there's something that's causing him to stress in the tank.

What can cause that though?

Cause him to stress you mean? Anything really you just need to pay close attention to him. I had a very easily spooked flowerhorn before. Was always unstable and would dart when people pass by the tank. He was always like that even months after I got him. I found that having gravel/background paper as well as raising the stand higher helped since I had a usually low stand. But the real problem ended up being the clothes being hanged near his tank(my tanks outdoor). I'm sure with time yours will be fine, you could try taking all the decor out and buying a female parrot for him to play with.

Does he hide often? I would just take it out. I don't give my horn any hiding spots, I want him out swimming around. The more time he sees you the more comfortable he will be, he ain't going to get better if he doesn't even see you because he's hiding.

Yea I took them out and left one in the middle for my two snails. The corner ones are ones he he's in so now he's out in open and I'll see how he does next few days.
