i have a female flowerhorn that i have for about month and a half. she stopped eating for some reason and its been a week since she last ate. i think she could be eating probably when she clears out some gravel because the pellets may have disintegrated on them or she eats the algae off of them. the way she ate before she stopped eating was vomiting it and trying to eat it again and again. i tried adding vita to her pellets but it didn't.

why is she doing this? is it because she wants to mate? or is it because of his tank mate my other flowerhorn (her mate)

any suggestions guys i tried almost everything.

any suggestions guys i tried almost everything. MAIN REASON IS LOW PH AND AMMONIA IN WATER . U BETTER GIVE A HITTER IN THE ACQUARIUM. DONT CHANGE WATER FREQURNTLY. ADD 1 SPOON OF BAKING SODA FOR 3 DAYS TO MAINTAIN PH...............................

It can be she is trying to be breed but it also can mean her mate is aggressive and she won't eat due to that reason. I had this issue with a male and he would barely eat just enough to get him by. I fed him some brine shrimp and regular shrimp and he ate is so fast. Sometimes these fish get picky. Try a different type of food for now to get her some energy. Also it can be water quality. Try to do a water change and that can make her more active and eat and possibly spawn. I remember I did a big water change and the next day I had eggs.

Whats the size of the FH?
Whats the size of the tank?
Whats the size of her mate?

My red devil female didn't eat for like a month before when she was spawning only the male would eat. I had to feed him at the other end of the tank and feed her sinking pellets and she would get a few.

I wouldn't be too concerned its survival of the fittest she will eventually try to eat something you give her. I would bump up the temp to 86 after a 50% water change and go from there.

Breeding or preparing to breed would increase her appetite not decrease it. My guess is if she is mouthing the food then spitting it out its either too large of pellet or she just doesn't like it. My picky eaters always prefer small sinking pellets. For Hikari brands go for mini pellet and omega one get small.
