This is my flowerhorn, I dont know too much about this type of fish at all. I know there a hybrid fish, I know there agressive. Thats about it. I traded a couple of texas/midas crosses for two of these fish. One died from getting beat up. Any way thanks for looking.

Oh it's also about the size of a half dollar.

Yeah, looks like a pretty fat little female. This fish is called a red dragon flowerhorn.
I wouldn't even make a call of what type of strain is it right now. All I can say about it, this fish will have lots of pearls, and Red ZZ doesn't have that much pearls unless it is mixed.

Is pearls a good thing? Or is that a way for people to identify the certain bloodlines?

At this point, it can be a male or a female. Almost impossible to tell the sex of your fish at this size. If they are well fed, they will look like female. If they are poorly fed, they look like male because the body tend to look longer. I wouldn't count on it to be a male or female anytime yet.

Flowerhorn with pearls is definitely good alright. In fact, it is one of the most highly sought after in a flowerhorn. As far as identifying certain bloodlines/strains. You can say yes and you can also say no. Yes because certain FH doesn't have that many pearls. No because a few strains out there have pearls just about equally.

Ah, I see. What can you tell me about there diet? Right now it's eating cichlid gold, frozen cubes of mysis shrimp, krill ( i have to break them really small though i have a big frozen sheet) and lastly massivor pellets. I feed 3 X's a day smaller doses. I used to feed just one big meal.

Also it's funny this is the most response I have gottin on my flowerhorn, lol.
