My FRT is about a year and a half old, super healthy, but just sits there!
I have tried giving him a sand bottom, bare bottom, no tank mates, some tank mates, low light, high light, decor, no decor you name it and the ****er just SITS THERE!
I have seen other FRT's on youtube and such swimmin around and exploring
does anyone have any suggestions of how to stimulate this little guy?

lol. they are beautiful reptiles, but would be even more beautiful if he did something.

They vary in personality. The bigger the tank they are in the more active they will be. When I had a pair in a 240 they didn't swim much, now that they are in a 750 with other fish they are very active.

It's probably an individual trait. Of my 3 FRTs, one is always just sitting in the back bottom, one is active just before to just after her normal feeding time. And, one is always on the move and curious of what's happening outside his tank. These habits haven't changed in 7 years.

yeah. thats what i feared. i got stuck with a lame one lol. well hopefully he'll change his mind at some point in life. I noticed when I kept him in my moster fish community, he was way more active, but he attacked my rays so he had to be put back into solitary.

Yours is still very young. I'd try floating some bunches of anacharis at the surface. It'll help get the turt off the bottom to graze and may bring it out of its shell (pun intended) enough to gain some confidence in its surroundings and embolden it into a higher activity level. Some bait shiner dithers will offer it some food, exercise, and constant motion that will make the turt less apprehensive towards movements outside the tank.
