my Fly River Turtle is boring!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds like lazy guy! I've seen the same with rays. Some fly all over the tank, up and down all day. While others just bury themselves in the sand and hardly move...

I wouldn't be too disappointed. If my turtles hide all day and only come out for dinner, I know that everything is OK. If they would be active all day and night swimming, I would have to see where the stress factor comes from.

My FRT is equally useless. As soon as the lights go out he's up and all over the place. I've tried him with varying light levels, ph, temp, tank size, etc. Now my buddy has one the same size, which was raised with mine, that's super active at all times.

exactly my case. he is all over the place at night no matter what. stupid thing.

I agree with oddball, all turtles act differently. If it is really bothering you maybe you could look up some zoo-style enrichments such as placing its food in different parts of the tank and try and make him work for it some how or change up the tank decor every so often, and most importantly vary the diet. There are all sorts of ways to make a couch potato turtle move a bit more.

If I were you though, I would not complain- at least you have one...

i think if you pay a large amount of money on one of these turtles it should be to your personal liking,

mine luckily is a very curious guy

hope things turn out for the best for you man

I use to have one that didn't move much. I got rid of it and eventually got another one that is constantly swimming like a sea turtle. The guy I got the first one from said it was swimming all the time but had to put it into a small tank. That cause it to not swim anymore. The reason it was put in a small tank is because it got beat down by another one in the larger tank. The one I have now that swims all the time was feed floating pellets. Currently it eats everything and is kelp in 78 degree water with other large fish. Good Luck.

he's not boring anymore! i figured out the perfect lighting that makes him active. I just light only half the tank and he swims all over. success!
