My friend is new to fish and im helping him buy a tank he just wants a 55 gallon. W e found a 55 with a stand, filter, powerheads, undergravel filter, heater, and stone with fish. He wants $250. Is this a good deal and if not what would be a good price to ask

Average price for a typical 55g set up around here in 100 -150 bucks. I would say 250 is too high.

What kind of filters how old is the tank metal or wood stand? I personally think its kind of high you can get a brand new one with filter heater and stand from walmart for that much

Agreed, you could buy a new set-up for that much.

Could you really?

I know here in PA, in my area (Harrisburg) a 55 gallon along runs $100 with the hood and light, with NO light.

Then the stand is normally another $100+ for cast iron, metal, wood etc.

Then gravel, is well over $2 a bag.

The filters, any decent brand is $30 and over.

Air stones are cheap, the power supply to them are not. They are about $20-$50.

Heaters are around $30.

Now, note that these are all brand new items, and I also agree it's a bit high, but it's cheaper than buying everything brand new. Personally, I bought my 75 gallon tank with everything (matching wood stand, filters etc etc) for $250.

You can find better.

At walmart they have a 55 with HOB filter (which works good still got mine after 5 years) heater hoods lights light bulbs a sample of flakes and water conditioner and a net for 168 its the black frame one. It all glass Aquarium brand and I still have it all after 5 years. You can get matching stand which isn't a metal one for 70. All you would need would be gravel but I use sand from Lowe's 4 bucks for a 50#.

You're lucky. My walmart doesn't sell anything over 20 gallons.

Yeah Walmart has it for that price new and some of your LFS or even Petsmart/Petcos in the area have some with specials. So if I was you I would go maybe 175 or so personally
