Ok, my friend seems to think my housecat can reach in, through my pothos and other holes, to fish out my growouts. There is a lid on it.

Everyone, is he right?

I have 2 cats and 7 fish tanks, both cats drink from my tanks and also, I leave the tops off of my filters so they can drink from the clean falling water. neither one of my cats bother any of my fish, but they love to drink the flowing water, even if there is a fresh water dish out they prefer to drink from the tanks. Since they don't bother the fish I just go with it. I've been doing this for 5 years now and never had any problems.

Yep,all the cats I've had over the years seemed to prefer to drink the water from the top of the tanks rather than their dishes...I think it's something about skill challenge of getting up there and getting their heads through the opening to get to the water that attracts them..I have never caught them going after the fish though.
 
Probably because the tank water is full of fish flavors
 
i had a wet pet lone malawii in an open top tank in my kitchen and i caught our old cat with him out but alive on the kitchen floor! i saved him and shoe'd the cat.. he also had but ate a golf ball goldfish of my missus!! some def do!
