oh ya for sure , the more recent ones he got in , the guy told me , he had to wait til they were a bit bigger to ship ?!@! ;)

I don't wanna ruin anything for you, but this is most certainly no cb animal. 99.9% of all available FRT's are illegally wild caught and smuggled from Indonesia. Breeding in captivity only happened a few times and not on a regular basis. FRT's that are captive bred would never reach the open market, because they would be dispersed around zoos and turtle conservation organisations first.

That's also the reason why your FRT was so cheap. Nobody had to keep parents and because they are so small, maintenance is still easy. They get more aggressive as they grow and soon after they hit 8 inch or so, you have to keep them individually. Then they get really expensive because no vendor can afford to keep one for a long time in a tank he could use for more other stuff.

But I totally understand the craziness about them. They are really beautiful and elegant turtles!

To top your tougths I think people should really start to farm them in great scale, much like so many other turtles. Once that was done the demand for wild cauth ones would really drop and it could be both a ecofriendly and profitable activity alike. Like iguana farms in South America they could be required to release a part of the offspring back into the wild which would be of no trobble considering how prolific this turtles are.
