My FX5 is driving me nuts

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i had a similar problem. in my case, it was caused by micro-bubbles flowing around inside the tank. but even when i have the output exposed during a water change it goes away. my media is pre-filter ceramics, bag of carbon, and biomax.

have you thoroughly checked the intake hose for leaks? sometimes air can get sucked into an intake hose that isn't completely sealed.. or maybe has cracked?

just something else to check..

On my old filter there was a tiny crack that kept sucking in air and it drove me crazy.

This isn't good news, i'm meant to be buying a Fx5 later this week. :(

the gasket on the inside of the lid could be leaking air in and out or the lid is not on properly. trying taking it off and inspecting the lid and gasket and making sure its tightly sealed back on the canister, gotta turn those 8 nobs just right.

it also helps sound wise to have ur canister filters enclosed in something. worst comes to worst make a lil room for it, which is air tight, that will eliminate the sound. use lots of padding and rubber seals!!!

When I had air coming thru into my filter (not Fx5), I cleaned the seal with a tooth brush and voila it was fixed. All you need to do is do a very through inspection, you will find the probalem.

You have to be sure to turn the intake valve back on first also after refilling. I had this problem once when I turned the out put valve back on first. I don't know what difference it makes but in the manual it states to turn the input valve back on first or the filter will not fill back up properly.

i dont think that matters. i open both up, either order, then plug her in, works fine.
