My FX5 return hose looks like it's stressing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Simple fix. It looks like you have plenty of hose there and the stressed area is close to the end. Just remove the hose, the clamp, and rubber attachment. Cut off the bad section of hose and reattach.

Take a black marker and colour off the white portion and hope for the best

i had the output hose on one of my FX5's come apart this morning and flooded my house. luckily the house is tiled, so it didn't do any permanent damage. but i decided that i wanted better, more reliable plumbing. so i built a pvc pipe that goes to one of the holes in the back of the tank (180 acrylic). i put the bulkhead fitting on backwards so there would be a spout kinda thing.. and at the FX5 i used an 15" piece of the FX5 hose to connect to the PVC pipe.

i'm planning on doing something similar for the intake hose and possibly for both of the FX5's on the 210.

i didn't realize how severely the FX5 output nozzles that hang in the tank restricted the flow. i used 1" pvc pipe and the pipe is just open going into the tank and the water just ROARS out.. in just the first hour the tank was sparklier and cleaner than it ever has been. i don't know how to measure the flow but i know that using just the open pipe has greatly increased the flow.

Manual states!

• Hosing must follow a straight path from the filter to the
aquarium rim, with some slack, but no loops.

Those hoses heavy when full of water, and your asking for trouble soon.

Agreed! I see many setups that let both hoses sag like above. Puts too much stress on the cheap ribbed hoses IMO.

yup i sprung a leak bc of a lil too much sag after i moved the filter.

Its just a matter up time before it breaks if you have enough hose just cut it back behind the white and reattach or replace the hose.
