My Gar Has A Bent Back/Tail Drooping Down

Thanks for the replies. With the broken back is he safe to move into a new tank, and would he fare ok with more fish?

Depends on the fish. He would absolutely do better without anything that would harass him.

I'm thinking about getting rid of my Oscar, upgrading, and add some severums, a Lima shovelnose, possible a ghost knife, and maybe a few cichlids, anything that would harass him there?

the cichlids depending on the type, and the other 2 (depending on personality) may bother him if they are bigger. I'm sorry I should have been more clear when I asked about top cover, I meant are there floating plants or do you keep the lights off for some of the day? Gar prefer tanks with top cover such as plants or even a darkened lid or dim lights. They spook easily, mine for no reason dart across the tank.

My gar is over a foot, and I'm planning on growing the other fish so I dont think size will be an issue.

good deal. Just keep in mind some cichlids don't care about the size of a tankmate lol they'll harass anyhow.

Ok thanks, I'll try to stay to the less aggressive ones, such as severums, any suggestions for other less aggressive cichlids?
